Jesus said: "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave to all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served ,but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Mark 10:43-45
WOW!! think about that. To be greater we must become less. We must go beyond ourselves and learn that other's are more important than us. If you want to become greater, to be held at a higher standard, then you must be the one that is seen as less in this world and do more for others. To be first you must be slave to all. That's pretty strong. A slave does whatever is asked of them an is seen as being lower than dirt. Christ's presence here was a humble presence. He got down and washed his disciples feet. When is the last time you did something like that? when was the last time you washed someones bathroom or went out of your comforts out of your way to help someone feel better? Jesus. God the one worthy of all praise. the maker of the universe. the all powerful all knowing mightiest King. came not to be served but to serve. WOW! How is it, that he who is 1 trillion times more worthy of being served chooses to come down and serve? And we who deserve nothing, think we should be served instead of serve? how screwed up! Jesus didn't live in nice hotels always sleeping on nice soft beds. He didn't always eat at fancy restaurants or have tons of food supplied for him. He slept under the stars, traveled all over the place. He chose to spend time with the lowlifes. Sometimes it becomes easy for us to care about the impoverished in other countries. but would you be willing to live with them? if so ...good. how about the multiple homeless people in the united states? yea? good. Ok then would you live life and spend time with a pregnant girl at your school? would you love on her? how about that kid that is in and out of Juvie? would you speak to them? or that kid that really hurt you. really did wrong to you? are you willing to live with them? be a servant for them and abandon your own desires? Are they more important than you? or is your agenda, your social life, your comfort, or your timemore important? When we recognize that others are greater than we. that our job is to serve and to love them. To selflessly do things for them out of the desires of our hearts, then we will find an amazing communion with God and we will be able to enjoy the joy and excitment that comes from seeing God's greatness and strength work through us. We get to be first witnesses of His amazing power and love.
